Wind from my hometown
---By Hong Gan
The wind might not exist
if there were no clouds, no trees,
no fine raindrops falling
no grass on the deserted field
no dust and dirt, no ripples in the pond
no hair on my skin
I’ve always felt the wind
gentle on my face, coming from my hometown
which scatters sycamore flowers all over
sends a pond of frogs to sing,
swings the bamboo thicket full of green
urges the full pond of lotuses with fragrance to bloom
Towards the direction of the wind,
I look up at the clouds spreading and disappearing
listen to the trees quivering in the wind
and watch reeds swaying with birds on
From dust rising, rain drizzling
to the waves one after another smashing against the river bank
I listen to the wind ,whispering the repeated exhortations from my childhood home.
